The Sound of Silence: How Most Songs Die Unheard

About 99,000 new songs land on streaming platforms every day, and most of them will never be heard. The Sound of Silence turns that number into a scrolling story about attention in an age when anyone can publish.

Built as a single HTML page, the story unfolds as the reader scrolls: from the daily flood of uploads, to a catalog of more than 200 million tracks, to the 95% of Spotify artists with fewer than 1,000 monthly listeners. Every figure links to its source.

The format is light on purpose. The technology stays in the background, and the reader moves through the data at their own pace. The same approach works for almost any subject, editorial or brand.
