I'm Boris Benko, a graphic designer from Zagreb, Croatia, specializing in infographics and visual storytelling.
After graduating with a degree in graphic design from the Faculty of Graphic Arts in Zagreb, my career started in a newsroom. In 2001, I joined the infographics desk at EPH, one of Croatia's largest newspaper publishers, and spent the next 11 years producing infographics every day for its newspapers and magazines. For the last four of those years, I ran the department.
Daily deadlines are a good teacher. You learn to find the one point that matters, cut everything else, and make it clear before the paper goes to print. I still work that way.
In 2012 I founded Infographic Box, a studio specialized in infographic design. As the work expanded beyond infographics, it grew into Mint Onion, the creative studio I run today with a small international team. Together we've designed hundreds of infographics, along with illustrations, white papers, eBooks, presentations, animations and micro-content for social media.
In 2025 I launched Graphonaut, a media platform for visual stories told through static, motion and interactive infographics, with its own digital magazine. Its first feature, Mars Space Tourism, won an Award of Excellence at SND47.
From newsroom to studio
Who I work with
Most of my clients are creative agencies, marketing teams and editors in the US and Europe. Over the years, I've designed for 26 companies on the Forbes Global 2000 list, 19 of them in the top 500.
Clients and partners have included Google, Samsung, Meta, IBM, Visa, Abbott, Red Bull, Royal Caribbean, Mashable, The Huffington Post, UNICEF, the Smithsonian and the International Olympic Committee.
Recognition
Magazine: Story Page. Awarded for the Mars Space Tourism feature in Graphonaut Magazine. The competition drew nearly 4,200 entries.

Background
University diploma in graphic design, Faculty of Graphic Arts, Zagreb, 2001. Member of ULUPUH, the Croatian Association of Applied Arts, since 2004, and of HZSU, the Croatian Freelance Artists' Association, since 2007. Recognized as an independent professional artist by the Croatian Ministry of Culture (Official Registration No. 80372333).
How I work
I like simple solutions, clear hierarchy and visuals that make people care before they start reading. Design decides whether anyone listens.
I'm 6 hours ahead of New York, so your project keeps moving while you sleep. After 25 years and hundreds of projects, I know how to plan a schedule and keep it.
